Date: Thursday, Apr 14th
Presenter: Professor John Nairn, Richardson chair in Wood Science and Engineering, Oregon State University
This overview talk will review some of my work since moving to OSU in 2006 and describe some goals for the future, with emphasis on working with the wood products industry. The content will focus on just one research area - the use of fracture mechanics in wood and wood-based composites. The goal will be to answer various existential questions such as: What is fracture mechanics? Why does chocolate taste so good? What is the the best way to split wood? What is the best way cut wood-plastic composites? and How do you choose the best resin for a wood-composite panel?
