There is an enormous range of properties in the materials with the same structure as BaCuChF and BiCuOSe. I will briefly review the family tree and discuss these two particular semiconductor cousins in more detail. BaCuSeF may be useful as a p-contact in solar cells, and BiCuOSe is remarkably easy to make, and exhibits large p-type conductivity when doped with Ca. Recently, we have applied x-ray absorption and emission techniques to BiCuOSe, and are bringing up a new (for us) thermal conductivity measurement technique in our lab.
